“…beauty is life when life unveils her holy face. But you are life and you are the veil. Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.” (76)
“And he who defines his conduct by ethics imprisons his songbird in a cage.” (77)
“And a good deed that calls itself by tender names becomes a parent to a curse.” (89)
this one was given to me last thanksgiving by someone else’s trini mommy and finished it by christmas and gave it to my southern mommy. most recently, nadia quoted from it for her wedding vows. it’s obviously a classic and has been recommended by everyone from maria to mumia, which is interesting considering the comments on prisons and imprisonment:
“What penalty lay you upon him who slays in the flesh yet is himself slain in the spirit?” (42)
“In truth that which you call freedom is the strongest of these chains, though its links glitter in the sun and dazzle your eyes.” (48)
“Like children playing by the ocean who build sand towers with constancy and then destroy them with laughter.” (44)
if anyone knows to to ensure that a chinup bar stays in the doorway, get at me. gotta send shouts to my folks for making sure that my spirit and my belly were full of great this season, and all my love to those who show up every day, not just the one day that it’s universally acceptable to fake it.
to parkdale’s swaggy p-i’m sorry that i called your friend a bitch. she doesn’t deserve that, i’m sure she’s a nice person. besides, i’m not mad at her. it’s you that i’m very, very, very disappointed in and slightly disgusted by. bigups to vivi for co-miserating that harley quinn is the patron saint of busted white girls everywhere-forgive them for their wackness, they know not what they are. also-you might win some, but you just lost one. at least i got to air my grievances on festivus after all, and start grieving the fact that we are done forever ever. i hope it was worth it because i’m ghost.
“Even those who limp go not backward.” (65)
